Lava Java Restaurant Breakfast Review
Today we chose to eat breakfast at Lava Java on Ali’i Drive on Kona Bay in Kailua Kona on The Big Island of Hawai’i.
Leise and I ordered the same thing: Fresh Fish Benedict. As an alternative to ham she ordered it with smoked salmon and I ordered it with the catch of the day, Ono. Ono is a local white fish that is so delicious that it’s name translates to delicious. The meal comes with rustic potatoes which have just enough peppery spice to grab your attention.
The hollandaise sauce is creamier than I’m used to. You can taste the butter in it. It’s quite fantastic. The eggs are perfect. The Ono is as named, delicious. Instead of an English muffin they serve it all on a open faced croissant. It is a nice light change from the chewiness of the English muffins. Leise says the smoked salmon is wonderful.
With the musical talents of Honaka’a local Dennis Pascubillo playing guitar and singing in the background and relaxing lazy Kona Bay in front of us this place earns high marks for ambiance. With the great food you can rest assured we will be back. For ambience I give Lava Java 4 out of 5 surfboards. For food quality I give 4 out of 5 surfboards. For service I give 4 out of 5 surfboards. Overall I give it a solid 4 surfboards.
Aloha,
