Midway in my Kailua Kona Coast walk. I stopped at Don The Beachcomber’s Mai Tai Grille for some iced tea and pupus. Relax, put your feet on the wall and listen to the waves. This is one of my favorite places to just chill.
Just picked up my Bulletproof Coffee at Waimea Coffee Company. I gave them a Carolina Reaper Pepper from my buddy’s garden. They said they will use it in the tacos for Taco Tuesday today. Yum. Carolina Reaper is the Guinness’ HOTTEST pepper in the world.
I was saddened to see a landmark which has been here forever is now gone. Yama’s Specialty Shop (fishing tackle) is gone. I was recently speaking with one of the old timers in Kailua Kona and he was referencing this exact spot. We mourn the passing and wish the new business, Nicholson Construction Company, LLC the best of luck. May they be a good neighbor and community landmark in the future. 75-118 Lunapule Rd, Kailua Kona, HI

Relaxing at Ola Brewery to a wonderful Kiawe Vanilla Porter. They roast the kiawe seed pods which gives this beer a light smoky flavor and the vanilla smooths out any rough edges. 6.8% ABV, 20 IBU

Relaxing in a lounge chair poolside and enjoying the water slides at #hiltonwaikkloavillage. This is what resetting and restoring is all about.
Taking a moment to myself while helping my wife at the International Women’s Day event at The Fairmont Orchid On Hawai’i Island.
We are at El Maguey Mexican Restaurant in Kailua Kona on the Big Island called Hawai’i. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant on island. We haven’t been here in awhile. It’s always good but today it is superb. I order the 2 chili relleno plate with beans and rice. Service is quick. Ambiance is great. Good Mexican pop music. The colors, sights, and smells are all I have come to know from growing up on the U.S. side of the Mexican border. The meal arrives at our table. The sauce warmly covering the chili rellenos is a little salty otherwise it’s a perfect balance of temperature, texture, and tantalizing taste. As my wife keeps reaching over to steal bites of my meal to add to her wonderful taco salad I suppress my primal urges to bite off her hand. From the first bite you can tell based on the cheese. If they use a cheap quality cheese my throat will feel a little itch then start restricting more with each bite. The queso is muy delicioso. I always use the chili relleno as the base unit of measure for a Mexican restaurant. If they can’t this right they probably can’t get anything right. If they do get the chili relleno right it’s usually a guarantee everything else we be great. I rate El Maguey a 5 out of 5 stars.
