Kona Canoe Club Restaurant Review

I am excited to try the food and experience of Kona Canoe Club which is part of the Wind & Sea restaurants family.  The location is ideally set in the downtown, bay front section of Kona town.  Leise starts with a virgin piña colada and potato skins. I start with a Big Wave Golden Ale. The breeze is light and relaxing. This location is divine. We can smell the ocean water and hear it lapping up against the sea wall. My beer arrives. It smells smooth and sweet like passion fruit. I relax further due to the aroma of the beer. I think that may be a first. We listen to the Hawaiian music playing in the background, one of our favorite groups, Hapa. I sip the beer.  Oh man this is smooth. I usually prefer dark beer if I drink at all. But this is fantastic. Leise loves her piña colada.

The potato skins arrive. They look beautiful. These potato skins are good. The skins are baked and then broiled, not deep fried. Oh wow, they melt in your mouth. The cheddar cheese and jack cheese are surprisingly flavorful. The plate is served with a equally flavorful, but not overpowering, salsa and ranch dressing. Relaxing with a wonderfully delicious beer we comment to our waitress that we are instant converts and will be back for happy hour regularly. Listening to the ambient sounds I hear the ocean, the birds, the baby cooing 3 tables away being loved by dad, the British accent 2 tables away, and the Japanese being spoken at the next table. I love the international attraction of Hawaii. I love hearing so many people representing such diversity and all peacefully getting along and loving their vacation experience in Hawaii.

For the second course I order another Big Wave Golden Ale. I never have more than 1 beer, if I drink any at all. But this is delicious and I am so relaxed here. Possibly the most relaxed I’ve been in years. Leise ordered the club sandwich. The club sandwich is a little dry. That is due to the small amount of tomato used. The waitress quickly brings some freshly cut tomato for us. The flavor of the club is very nice. The accompanying cole slaw is nice, light and somewhat forgettable. With the tomatoes the waitress bring some potato salad which is quite pleasant. With a little salt it’s wonderful.

For ambiance I give Kona Canoe Club restaurant 5 out of 5 surfboards. For food quality I give 4 out of 5 surfboards. For service I give 5 out of 5 surfboards. Overall i give it a 4.5 surfboards.  We love this place and will be back repeatedly.
